Shaded Pillars
This is a structure belonging to the University of Michigan I found when I was running around downtown. I wanted to capture the patterns and lines I saw in the building. There was a parking structure across the street from it as well, which gave me an opportunity to take an image from a higher up perspective, which I took for the blueprint image. However, no matter how I turned the camera, I wasn't able to get a perfect straight on shot of the building. When I tilted my camera, it always seemed a little bit rotated, and when I turned the camera, I either had space on one side of the building or the other.
Golden Window
This is a University of Michigan campus dormitory. This one, specifically, I stayed in for two weeks during a summer camp after my freshman year. These photos are the results of my attempts to capture the nostalgia I associate with this building. Like with the building above, no matter how many different camera positions I tried, I never managed to procure a straight on shot of the building or the doorway.
Weathered By Years
This is an old house I found again when I was running around downtown. I wanted to capture the details of the house, that gave it an overall "run-down" appearance. Unlike with the buildings above, I didn't have to concern myself with getting a straight on shot, as I was more focused on the damages in construction; I was focused not on the whole building, but parts of it. I liked how I was able to accomplish my objective and capture what I saw made the building seem so depressing.
Mirrored Life
This is the high school I'm currently attending. I attempted to capture it from the point of view of a student: Someone who has a large part of their life consumed by school. I liked how the sky reflected off the glass in the first picture, making it seem continuous. I didn't like the cars in the parking lot though. Fortunately, I was able to photoshop them out in the blueprint one.
Darkside
This was a church I again found when I was running around downtown. In these two photos, I was trying to create images with a sense of pattern/rhythm, with the repetition of those mini-towers. I think it went well. The church was very photogenic, and I just like the balance that I get in these images. As well, with the perspectives I chose, the inability to take straight on images wasn't much of a factor here.
