My image conveys what goes on “behind the scenes” with me; It shows what’s going on in my head/ what I’m thinking about a lot of times. The guitar represents something always in the back of my mind. A lot of times, when I’m bored, I’ll just imagine playing the guitar. Even when I’m not bored, I’ll occasionally zone out and often I’ll be thinking about playing it. The picture of my friends represents how I think about people in my life I care about a lot. The overlayed view of being on a rowing machine represents how rowing, for the past two or so years, has just consumed my life and changed how I view everything. That’s why it’s overlaid, instead of cropped out. It’s not just another subject I think about - It’s a filter of how I view life. However, all of these things are still important; All three still show what’s going on behind the scenes.
Artist Statement (Double Exposure)
I think the big difference between my new selfie and my old one is the lighting & the attention to the rule of thirds. In this photo, I paid attention to where the big features of the subject (my face) were, in the eyes, and used the grid system to place them at the crossing points. I also made sure to use natural lighting, which was absent from my first selfie.
